The Great British Staycation

Posted by Michelle Topham

You must have been hiding in a cave to have missed the crowds visiting the best of the UK for their annual getaway.

And lucky us too! We’ve been packed with visitors right here in Skipton, all set to take in the delights and fresh Dales air that we have on offer.

It had us thinking – how many of us have welcomed family and friends into the home, visiting after what seems like a lifetime apart?

Guests are great – but finding the room can be tricky at times, and more often than not, finding a bed for them is no easy matter!

But fear not, you can still be the perfect host and offer comfort and practicality for your guests with a very handy sofa bed!

A fantastic investment for the home – for those with or without the space - sofa beds are just our favourite thing at the moment! Great for smaller rooms, studies, kids’ playrooms, teenage spaces and even the living room, they’re just an all-round winner.

Available in a whole host of fabric and colour options, the Ruben Sofa Bed is the perfect choice for smaller rooms. Its compact proportions and neat angular arms make it both stylish and versatile. Matching sofas and accent chairs are also available in this range, making it a seriously wise choice.

And for those with a guest bedroom – is it time for an upgrade? If so, then the bed is always a great place to start. Wow your guests with our Nimbus Curved Oak Frame Bed. With all the feels of a luxury hotel, this timeless bed frame will last and last forever and go with almost any interior scheme.

Pair it with a gorgeous mattress like our Mattress Library 4000 Pocket Sprung option and you’ll have your guests coming back year after year!

Our showroom has everything you need to build your perfect guest bedroom experience – whether it’s a dedicated space or a multi-purpose room. We are the experts and here to help.

Floral Fancy

We just love a floral design here at The Home Company.

From large scale decorative floral pattern to delicate designs, a dose of nature can add another dimension into your home interior.

The summer season is the perfect time to add a touch of floral into the home, and whether you choose an all-out scheme or something more subtle, we have a wide array of home accessories and furniture to help you achieve that botanical, just stepped out into the garden feeling.

And our top tips to achieve the look?

1. Floral pattern can take on any vibe. From floaty and feminine to edgy and eclectic, floral design will combine well with an existing theme and look particularly lovely paired with stripes, animal print and geometric – so don’t be afraid to experiment!

2. For something more subtle you know the drill! Add in a few floral cushions or a whimsical throw to your sofa scheme or bedroom. We love the Spring Meadow Cushion which strikes the perfect balance.

3. Make a statement with a heavily patterned piece of furniture. A sofa or a footstool pose the perfect opportunity to incorporate pattern. Keep everything else simple, or go crazy with pattern clashing and layering. The Dales Loire Collection of sofas feature a variety of fabric options, including beautifully crafted patterns.

4. And what could be more lovely than actual blooms?! We are big fans of faux flowers, creating a similar ambience without the disappointment of having to constantly replace, we love our selection of artificial plants and flowers. Favourites are from the orchid collection, which are just perfect for injecting a bit of joy into the home.

Coastal Vibes

We’re all longing for a bit of sun, sand and sea – but what if we could create all the feelings of holiday without having to leave the house?

You can – and we can help you achieve all the feels of a faraway destination right here at the Home Company!

The coastal vibe is all about creating a relaxed and serene home environment. Coastal can also include plenty of colour – not just neutrals and blues!

The modern coastal chic interior mixes plenty of texture such as weathered, faded furniture alongside slubby sofas and soft furnishings. Linen, rattan and rope are traditionally associated with a seaside interior and can be incorporated through carefully selected accessories.

We love the idea of mixing pops of reds, burnt oranges and marine blues alongside whitewashed walls.

Here’s our top picks to create the ultimate coastal retreat:

1. The Derna Driftwood Natural Jute lamp offers the ultimate in laid back lighting, this mixed with the Hampton Whitewash Wood table lamp looks absolutely gorgeous!

2. Natural textures can enhance the feeling of the coast, our Poseidon Natural Linen throw and Cotswold Throw are right on the money.

3. Whitewashed, weathered materials are the very essence of a seaside look and feel. Just picture our Natural Wood and Metal Round Clock on the wall of a faraway beach hut, or our Large Grey Oak Wood Mirror which has the look of a pebble in your Maldivian villa…..

4. A coastal décor isn’t complete without a rustic piece of wall art. Our Square Antique Mirror is so versatile – whether it’s a seaside scape or a something else, it is a complete and utter showstopper!

5. And finally! For those important pops of colour our Malini Luxe Orange and Luxe Bluewing cushions will add just the right balance.

Bedroom

A good night’s sleep can be the basis of everything.

From waking feeling energised and ready to take on the day, to waking feeling exhausted – the kind of night’s sleep you’ve had impacts all aspects of your life, from your mood, to what you eat.

We all know about the golden eight-hour rule, but what happens if your bedroom environment is playing havoc with your routine?

Here at The Home Company, we take sleeping seriously – so much so we’ve got a gorgeous selection of beds and bedroom furniture to help our customers create a slumber sanctuary of rest and relaxation.

From single beds, double and king-size, bedside tables, lighting, sumptuous bedding, dressing tables, wardrobes and more – we’re here to help you create the dream – literally!

At The Home Company, you can even ‘Go Bespoke’ when it comes to buying a new bed and choose one that exactly matches your own needs and specifications. Or for those living in homes with difficult access, our new mattress-in-a-bag features up to 4000 pocket springs and a luxurious cashmere topper.

Here are our top tips to create the ultimate bedroom experience:

1. Choose a colour scheme that will aid relaxation. Blues, greens, yellows and lilacs are a great choice.

2. Keep it simple. Clutter, excess decoration and oversized furniture can be disruptive to a good night’s sleep.

3. Don’t overdo it. We often have a tendency to pack in too much furniture to one space. Think carefully about what you need in your bedroom – a bed and a couple of bedside tables is just the right amount of furniture for the average sized bedroom.

4. Choose the best mattress you can afford. The average life cycle of a mattress is around seven years – so be mindful about selecting the right surface for your requirements. With so much choice from foam to pocket spring, it’s important to get it right!

5. Think carefully about accessories, a bed throw and a few cushions can make a lovely addition to a bed – but be careful not to overdo it!

6. Lighting is a key part in creating a sleep-inducing environment. Ceiling lights can often be harsh and too bright – where as a yellow-toned, low wattage light bulb in a beautiful bedside lamp will give just the right amount of light for reading while helping you gently lower your energy levels ready for a good night’s sleep.

7. Block out any outside lights. Blackout blinds and curtains are always a good idea in a bedroom – the darker the better when it comes to bedrooms!

Our showroom is filled with gorgeous bedroom room set ideas and our wonderful team are always on hand to offer advice on interior décor. Pop in and see us in Skipton’s High Corn Mill!
